Are you questioning the ability to communicate with Chimpanzees? If so, they can not talk to us with words, but they can be taught to understand a human language and reply using Lexigrams.

There is a gorilla called Koko who has learned GSL (Gorilla Sign Language) and can also understand spoken english and replies with sign language.

To me, these two examples prove that we can in fact communicate with animals and get into their minds to see what they are thinking. You can watch a video on youtube of a friend of Koko's who also learned GSL who tells a story of how his mother was killed by poachers. To see this video check out my Gorillas in the Mist book review.
